Mobile Honest Money

Install the honest.money Wallet as a Browser Extension (Computer)

Keep your honest.money wallet safe on your computer, even when you clear your cookies.

The honest.money wallet also comes as a browser extension for your computer. It is the same wallet as mobile.honest.money, with the same 12 words and the same coins.

Why use the extension?

When you use mobile.honest.money as a website, your wallet is saved in that website's browser data. If you or your browser clears cookies and site data, the wallet is erased from that browser and you have to import it again with your 12 words.

The extension keeps your wallet in its own storage, so clearing cookies and site data does not erase it.

What you need

  • A Windows computer with Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc or Opera. (The extension does not work in Safari or Firefox, or on phones.)
  • Your 12 words, if you are bringing in a wallet you already have.

Step 1: Download it

Go to https://mobile.honest.money/chrome and click Download the extension. This downloads a file called hme-wallet-extension.zip.

Step 2: Make a home for it

The browser runs the extension from this folder every time it starts, so it goes in your own private program folder, where it won't get moved or cleaned out. That folder is hidden, so you get there by pasting its name.

  1. Open File Explorer (the folder icon on your taskbar).
  2. Click in the address bar at the top, paste %LOCALAPPDATA% and press Enter.
  3. Right-click an empty spot, choose New, then Folder, and name it HM Wallet Extension.
  4. Double-click the new folder to open it, and leave this window open.

Step 3: Put the extension in that folder

  1. Find hme-wallet-extension.zip (usually in your Downloads folder) and double-click it to look inside.
  2. Press Ctrl+A to select everything, then Ctrl+C to copy.
  3. Click back into the HM Wallet Extension window, click an empty spot, and press Ctrl+V to paste.

You should now see a file called manifest.json in that folder.

Step 4: Turn on Developer mode

  1. In your browser, open a new tab, type chrome://extensions in the address bar and press Enter. (Edge: edge://extensions · Brave: brave://extensions · Opera: opera://extensions)
  2. Turn on Developer mode with the switch in the top-right corner.

If you use more than one browser profile, do this in the profile you normally use. Each profile has its own extensions.

Step 5: Load the extension

  1. Click Load unpacked. It appears once Developer mode is on.
  2. In the window that opens, click in the address bar at the top, paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\HM Wallet Extension and press Enter.
  3. Click Select Folder.

You will see a card called honest.money wallet.

Step 6: Make sure it's pinned

Look for the honest.money wallet icon at the top right of your browser, next to the address bar. Your browser may have pinned it for you. If it isn't there, click the puzzle-piece icon, then click the pin next to honest.money wallet.

Step 7: Open it and add your wallet

  1. Click the honest.money wallet icon. For a bigger view, click Open in tab in the bottom-right corner.
  2. To bring in a wallet you already have, click Import seed phrase and enter your 12 words in order. To start fresh, choose Create a new wallet.
  3. Before you finish an import, tap Advanced seed options. If there is anything in that box, even dots like *****, delete it so the box is empty. Your browser can fill a saved password in there, and that would open a different, empty wallet.
  4. Set a password and finish.

To add more wallets, use the + at the top, just like on mobile.honest.money.

Good to know

  • Your browser will show a message about developer-mode extensions and may offer to turn them off. Choose Keep. This appears for any extension installed this way.
  • Never click "Remove" on the extension card. Removing it erases the wallet from the extension, and your 12 words are then the only way to get it back.
  • To update: download the new zip, copy its files into your HM Wallet Extension folder the same way as Steps 2 and 3, choose Replace the files when asked, then click the ↻ (reload) icon on the extension card.
  • The wallet in the extension is separate from the one on the mobile.honest.money website. Using the same 12 words in both shows the same coins.
  • Never share your 12 words with anyone, including support.
